Commendation for custody care

Carly Westie

Carly Westie, a Berkshire Healthcare custody practitioner who works in Hampshire, supported a vulnerable person during a high-profile, complex case.

Carly, an experienced mental health nurse, assesses people in custody for vulnerabilities including mental health, trauma and learning difficulties.

This information is shared with decision-makers so they can support the person’s needs as they progress through the criminal justice system.

Commendation ceremony

Carly’s certificate was presented by Hampshire Constabulary Detective Chief Superintendent Scott MacKechnie at a virtual ceremony.

On receiving her award, Carly said: “Although I work alone in custody, I was supported by my team leader and manager throughout this case, which was a great help due to the complexities around the individual’s circumstances.

“When you’re recognised for just doing your job it’s really nice, especially when it comes from someone outside your organisation.”
