Service : School Nursing Service
Service overview
Our school nursing teams are led by school nurses (nurses and midwives with specialist public health qualifications), with support from community staff nurses, school health assistants and administrators.
We support the health and wellbeing of school-aged children and young people who attend state-maintained schools, free schools and academy schools in Bracknell Forest, Wokingham, Reading and West Berkshire. We also provide support for children who are home educated.
We lead on the 5 to 19 element of the Healthy Child Programme and work closely with schools, health visitors, GP’s, paediatricians and local services.
The Healthy Child Programme is a national programme that gives every family support through screening tests, developmental reviews, immunisations, and parenting advice.

Preparing for an assessment
Our school nursing teams provide confidential health advice and support to children and young people of school age and their families on a range of health-related topics including continence, healthy eating, anxiety, stress, sleep, self harm, long term medical conditions, either through arranged appointments at school, clinic or home or drop-ins at school, depending on what works best for your child and family.
If you're attending one of our enuresis clinics, you'll sign in at reception before being welcomed by a nurse. Appointments last up to 30 minutes and focus on understanding bedwetting concerns and exploring strategies to help your child become dry at night. Please remember to bring or email any monitoring charts in advance. Your child may be offered up to six appointments.

Yes. You are welcome to bring your registered service animal, such as a guide dog, hearing dog, medical alert dog, or other trained assistance dog to your appointment.
These animals are recognised as essential support and are permitted in most areas of our services.
To help us prepare, please let the team know before your appointment if you will be attending with a service animal. This allows us to make sure the environment is safe and comfortable for you, your animal, and other patients.
Please note that service animals may not be able to enter certain restricted clinical areas for safety or infection‑control reasons, but we will always work with you to find an appropriate alternative.
