Service : Clinical Health Psychology Service
Service overview
Health conditions and illnesses can affect more than just your body. There may be emotional and psychological effects, such as feelings of fear and uncertainty, and an impact on your lifestyle and relationships.
We can help you and your family to understand and manage the emotions (psychological consequences) that may be caused by your health conditions.
You might find that sometimes you can cope with the situation by yourself, and with help from friends and family. However, if you’re experiencing high levels of difficulty or distress you may find it helpful to seek support from our specialist Clinical Health Psychology service.
We can help you to:
- make sense of your condition, including managing symptoms, coping with medical treatment and side effects, and adjusting to everyday life
- find new approaches to coping and reaching your goals for improved quality of life
- understand the impact of your condition on yourself and those around you, including your relationships
- communicate with loved ones and health professional
- address any uncertainty you might have about future treatments and living with an illness
We will work with you to create the right treatment plan for your needs, with input from other services as well as healthcare professionals involved in your care.

Are service dogs allowed to my appointment?
Yes. You are welcome to bring your registered service animal, such as a guide dog, hearing dog, medical alert dog, or other trained assistance dog to your appointment.
These animals are recognised as essential support and are permitted in most areas of our services.
To help us prepare, please let the team know before your appointment if you will be attending with a service animal. This allows us to make sure the environment is safe and comfortable for you, your animal, and other patients.
Please note that service animals may not be able to enter certain restricted clinical areas for safety or infection‑control reasons, but we will always work with you to find an appropriate alternative.

Abuse, hate and discrimination against our staff is unacceptable.
We will take strong action against anyone who is verbally, racially, physically, or sexually abusive to them.
