Overview

Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) are a vital part of our trust. It’s a rewarding career that gives you the opportunity to work with a diverse range of patients and other healthcare professionals, to deliver great care.

You don’t need any specific qualifications so it can be a great way to start a clinical career. What you will need is a willingness to learn and passion for helping others.

With the right support, those who demonstrate the skills and core values essential to delivering high-quality, compassionate care can go on to become our future nurses, nursing associates, and allied health professionals (AHPs).

HCSW roles involve assisting clinical teams, so you’ll be working alongside nurses, doctors, AHPs, and administrators to provide great patient care.

You will be involved in the care of patients who are managing a long-term health condition or recovering from an illness, injury, or operation.

You could work in:

  • mental health services, on our inpatient wards at Prospect Park Hospital, or as part of multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) supporting people in the community
  • physical Health services, including inpatient rehabilitation wards, outpatient clinics, community nursing, and intermediate care.
  • learning disability services, on our inpatient ward or in a variety of community settings
  • children’s services, supporting outpatient clinics, school clinics, and home visits
  • Visit the Health Careers website to learn more

You will be supported by our clinicians to develop your skills, and in your first year you will receive enhanced training through our Stepping Forward programme, which includes pastoral support, reflective supervision, and career development discussions. We offer great career development opportunities for HCSWs, such as apprenticeships, to help you progress into a specialised clinical role.
