Service : Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service (Berkshire West)
Service overview
Our service is part of the Cardiac and Respiratory Specialist Services (CARSS), which is available in Berkshire West.
Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation service is designed to help you manage your chronic lung condition through a structured six-week programme. You can learn more about your symptoms, and build your exercise capacity so you don’t feel as out of breath in your daily activities.
We may also be able to support you with other respiratory conditions. Please speak to your consultant, nurse, or GP to find out more
Accessing our service
To access our service, you'll need to be referred by your GP or healthcare professional. It's important that you're 18 or older and registered with a GP in Berkshire West.
You must have a diagnosis of either:
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Bronchiectasis
- Interstitial Lung Disease
Once you’ve completed the programme, we’ll share contact details for our Respiratory Service, so you’ll know who to reach out to if your lung condition changes or you need further support.
Our rehabiliation course
Our 6 week course combines regular gentle exercises, including breathing techniques to manage shortness of breath and education on understanding your lung condition.
Everyone’s experiences of lung conditions are different, but most people who have joined our programme have noticed an improvement in their day-to-day lives, such as:
- fewer chest infections or flare-ups of their condition
- being more physically active and able to walk further
- feeling more positive about their symptoms and how to manage them
- having a better understanding of their lung condition
When you complete the programme, we’ll help you set goals for the future and guide you to other local services and groups that can help you.
We provide our classes as group sessions, so you can share your experiences with people with similar conditions.
