To ensure your child is healthy and develops to their full potential we recommend the following:
- Please make sure your child is registered with a GP. You can find out how to register with a GP surgery here.
- Have regular check-ups with an optician and dentist. These services are available free of charge and detect any potential issues early. To find a dentist in your area here: Find a dentist - NHS.
- Immunisations: Stay up to date with your child's immunisations to protect them from common childhood illnesses.
- Encourage a balanced diet: Encourage a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to support their growth, energy levels, and overall wellbeing.
- Promote regular physical activity: This helps your child develop strong muscles, bones, and a healthy cardiovascular system. Aim for at least 60 minutes of active play every day.
- Get adequate sleep: Make sure your child gets enough sleep each night (around 9-11 hours, depending on age) to support their physical and mental development, as well as their ability to focus and learn in school.
- Hydration: Teach your child the importance of staying hydrated by drinking water throughout the day, especially during physical activities and hot weather. Try to avoid sugary drinks.
- Good hygiene practices: Teach your child proper handwashing techniques and personal hygiene habits to prevent the spread of germs and reduce the risk of illness.
- Manage screen time: Limit screen time and encourage activities that promote creativity, social interaction, and physical movement.
- Mental health awareness: Encourage open communication with your child about their feelings and emotions, and provide support if they experience stress, anxiety, or other mental health challenges.
- Safety: Teach your child about safety including road safety, stranger danger awareness, and on line safety.
