Work for us : Armed forces support
Support for staff from the armed forces
We appreciate the valuable skills and cultural values developed by armed forces personnel. These skills are a great match for working in the NHS, and we warmly invite job applications from current and former armed forces members and their families.
We have policies and practices in place to support veterans, serving reservists, adult cadet volunteers, family members, and others in the armed forces community.
Our support package includes:
- tailored support before, during, and after armed forces reservist deployments
- two weeks of special paid leave for annual training commitments for armed forces reservists
- additional support for colleagues who are family members of Regular and Reserve Armed Forces personnel
Our commitment to being an outstanding armed forces employer
We strive to be an outstanding employer for the armed forces community as we value the diverse experiences and transferable skills you can bring.
Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) has been recognised by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) as the trust was awarded a gold award by the AFC Employer Recognition Scheme in July 2022.
Armed Forces Network
Through our Armed Forces staff network colleagues from all aspects of the armed forces community who work across the Trust are able to meet, share experiences, attend events and provide mutual support and advice as a team.
Supporting veterans’ healthcare
As well as ensuring equal access to employment opportunities within our organisation, we’re committed to helping veterans in our community by caring for their mental and physical health and supporting them and their family and carers to live a healthy and happy lifestyle.
If you’re leaving the armed forces or a relocating family member
We're here to help you start your NHS career by offering support, guidance, and opportunities to gain experience.
We provide:
- a guarantee of an interview to members of the armed forces community who meet the essential criteria for the role in their application
- career conversations and job reflection
- application and interview tips
- work experience opportunities
Clinically qualified service leavers
If you're a doctor, nurse, occupational therapist, or physiotherapist, we offer work experience to help you understand our services and roles.
Service leavers seeking non-clinical roles
There are 350 different careers in the NHS, many of which don’t require any medical background and that your armed forces skills could be very valuable in.
