Visit our wardsOverview
Donnington Ward at West Berkshire Community Hospital provides rehabilitation and intermediate care services. It supports patients who no longer need acute hospital care but still require medical support before returning home or moving to a long-term care setting.
Location
Visit our hospital location page to learn about parking, reception hours, on-site facilities such as the café, accessibility support, directions for getting here, and how to contact us.
Mealtimes
Lunch
Lunch is served between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
Evening meal
Evening meals are served between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
Protected mealtimes
If the patient does not need help, we ask visitors to avoid interrupting mealtimes. Nutrition is an important part of recovery and rehabilitation.
Visiting times
We encourage family and friends to visit their loved ones while they are in hospital.
We're flexible about visiting and will do everything we can to help you visit at a time that is convenient. We don't have fixed visiting hours, but suggest that you come in between 10am and 8pm. If this isn’t suitable, please talk to us so that we can make arrangements to avoid disturbing other patients
Mealtimes and care plans
Please talk to your loved one and/or ward staff when arranging your visit. This is so that you can arrive without disturbing treatment and mealtimes.
Privacy
On rare occasions, a patient's wishes regarding visiting may not be the same as the person wanting to visit. We will always give priority to the patient in our care.
Who can visit?
Patients are welcome to have two visitors at a time.
If you want to bring more people to the visit, please speak to us before. We may be able to offer a day room or space in the garden (if the weather is okay).
We recommend not bringing children under 12 to visit. Speak to our ward team for advice.
Infection control
If there is a suspected or confirmed infection on the ward we will tell you. If you would still like to visit, you may need to wear a face mask and use hand gel.
To protect all our patients, do not visit if you have had any of the following in the last 48 hours:
- diarrhoea
- vomiting
- rash
- a heavy cold
- cough
- COVID or flu
If you cannot visit, ask ward staff about phone or video calls.
