Service : Phoenix Service for children and young people
Service overview
Our service provides day hospital and home treatment for young people aged 12 to 18 who have moderate to severe complex mental health disorders.
It’s for those living in Berkshire or the wider Thames Valley area who need Tier 4 CAMHS care. This includes young people at serious risk of self-harm, experiencing suicidal thoughts, emotional dysregulation, eating disorders, and early onset psychosis.
Within our service, we can also support other complex mental health challenges such as obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Accessing our service
To access CAMHS Phoenix, the NHS England Referral Form (also known as Form 1) would need to be completed.
Referrals are typically from Berkshire Community CAMHS services. We also consider referrals from CAMHS teams within the Thames Valley Provider Collaborative for young people who live in/on the borders of Berkshire.
Preparing for an assessment
After we accept a referral, we’ll get in touch with the young person and their family to offer a date and time for their assessment appointment.
Most of our assessments happen at our CAMHS Phoenix clinics. In special cases, we can arrange for the assessment to take place at a location that works best for you.
The initial assessment appointment usually lasts between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on how complex the needs of the young person are. It’s carried out by a member of our medical team, nursing staff, or other professional from our wider team.
We ask that the young person attends with a parent or carer who knows their history well. Based on the referral form and any existing information in their Electronic Patient Records, we might ask for some developmental history or other details to help us fully assess whether the CAMHS Phoenix Service is the right fit.

Are service dogs allowed to my appointment?
Yes. You are welcome to bring your registered service animal, such as a guide dog, hearing dog, medical alert dog, or other trained assistance dog to your appointment.
These animals are recognised as essential support and are permitted in most areas of our services.
To help us prepare, please let the team know before your appointment if you will be attending with a service animal. This allows us to make sure the environment is safe and comfortable for you, your animal, and other patients.
Please note that service animals may not be able to enter certain restricted clinical areas for safety or infection‑control reasons, but we will always work with you to find an appropriate alternative.
Treating our team with respect.
Respect is important.
We will be polite and kind and we expect that you treat our staff in the same way.
Abuse, hate and discrimination against our staff is unacceptable.
We will take strong action against anyone who is verbally, racially, physically, or sexually abusive to them.
This includes contacting the police to prosecute, and stopping future access to our healthcare services.
