9–15 February 2026 is National HIV Testing Week.
People can live with HIV for a long time without any symptoms, and testing is the only way to know your HIV status. If you have HIV, finding out means you can start treatment, stay healthy and avoid passing the virus onto anyone else.
Testing for HIV is quick, easy, confidential and free for everyone in the UK.
There are different ways to test:
- Speak to your GP
- Visit our Sexual Health Service
- Order a free test online
Anyone diagnosed with HIV in the UK can access free treatment and support. Once on treatment, people living with HIV can protect their health, and can’t pass it on during sex.
If you’ve had unprotected sex and believe you’re at risk of HIV, seek immediate help for PrEP or PEP.
