Mental health and social care community services for adults in Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead are changing how they work from Friday 1 April 2026.

The joint adult community mental health and social care team is moving from one integrated team to two services.

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be responsible for mental health services, while the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) care team will deliver social care services.
RBWM is making the change to strengthen social work visibility and ensure residents can access support based on need, which is not dependent upon on whether they access NHS community mental health services.

What NHS mental health services do

The NHS Community Mental Health Team provides assessment, treatment and support for significant mental illness. Following a specialist mental health assessment, service users can access a bespoke programme of care and treatment which may include psychological therapy, psychiatry (medications prescribed by a specialist doctor and supported by mental health nurses), occupational therapy (activities that give purpose and structure to daily life) or support to find work, stay in work or manage work-related problems.

What mental health social care services do

Adult Social Care in Windsor and Maidenhead support concentrates on improving daily wellbeing, social functioning, and quality of life for people with mental health needs or neurodivergence. They use a strengths-based approach, meaning they work with service users to understand what matters to them, the strengths and resources they have, and the support that helps them stay independent.

What this means for accessing support

Adults (aged 18 or over, including over 65s) living in Windsor or Maidenhead:

For mental health treatment and support from the NHS your GP can continue to refer you to Berkshire Healthcare Mental Health services in the usual way.

If you may benefit from a social care assessment, you can contact RBWM Front Door directly by emailing adultsocialcarefrontdoor@rbwm.gov.uk  or by calling 01628 683744.
