Introducing our new Research Strategy

Berkshire Healthcare has launched its new Research Strategy, setting out how research will help us improve care, reduce health inequalities and support better outcomes for the people and communities we serve.

Research has an increasingly important role in helping services deliver care closer to home, prevent ill health, use digital tools safely and effectively, reduce inequalities and ensure that improvements are shaped with patients, carers and local communities.

The strategy sets out six key objectives, all designed to make research more inclusive, accessible and closely connected to local health and care needs.

• Building a stronger research portfolio focused on community care, earlier intervention and reducing inequalities.
• Using research to support prevention, population health and better outcomes for people who use our services.
• Embedding inclusion, co-production and the voices of patients, carers and communities in the way research is shaped and delivered.
• Using research to support anti-racism, digital innovation and service transformation.
• Strengthening research skills, confidence and opportunities for staff across our services.
• Growing partnerships that support innovation, funding, participation and local impact.

A key aim of the strategy is to make research more accessible, relevant and meaningful - creating more opportunities for people to get involved, strengthening how we work with patients and carers, and supporting staff to use research evidence to improve services and experiences. Inclusion is central to this ambition. We want research to better reflect the communities we serve, improve access for underrepresented groups, and embed co-production so that people with lived experience have a meaningful role in shaping research priorities, study design and how findings are shared.

The strategy also focuses on making taking part in research a better experience, with clearer communication, improved accessibility, more flexible ways to participate, and stronger feedback so people can see how their views and contributions are making a difference.

Over the next three years, Berkshire Healthcare will work with patients, carers, communities, universities, industry partners and other healthcare organisations to strengthen research across our services, support innovation and make sure our research has a clear, practical impact on care, experience and outcomes for the communities we serve.
