Improving care for neurodivergent people

We know that people with autism, ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions often face unfair barriers when trying to access care or support. That’s why we created our Neurodiversity Strategy -to listen, learn, and make real changes.

Since 2021, we’ve worked closely with people who have lived experience, our staff, and local partners to better understand what needs to change. Here’s just some of the things we’ve done:

  • Improved staff training so people feel better understood and supported
  • Launched the Neuro-inclusion Passport to help patients share their communication and sensory needs more easily
  • Introduced sensory-friendly spaces and sensory trolleys on our wards
  • Raised awareness and understanding of neurodiversity through our podcast, news articles, social media and events
  • Set up a peer support group for neurodivergent staff.

We recognise that there is still more to do. Neurodiversity is now part of we work and how we run our services. We’ll continue listening and learning, and we’re committed to making our care more accessible, inclusive, and supportive for everyone.
