Darcy's apprenticeship journey

Darcy worked as a business administration apprentice within the inpatients admin team.

Darcy previously went to college but decided this wasn't the type of education for her; she said: 'I found that the experience wasn't for me and I didn't want to go to university so I thought this was the most practical decision to make. I had also completed a three month traineeship course which gave me an insight on the different skills you can learn when being an apprentice.'

'I found the business administration apprenticeship being advertised on the National Apprenticeship website and applied. I had a 10 minute phone interview with Lifetime Training and then got invited to attend an interview and was offered the role.'

Darcy continued 'My manager is very supportive towards my apprenticeship and helps me with my coursework if I have any queries and my tutor from Lifetime is also very supportive and regularly visits me. I have a mentor within the team who also supports me with my coursework. I have time allocated each week on a Tuesday for me to complete my coursework and I also complete some coursework in my own time.'

The best part of being an apprentice is working with different people and learning all about the different services within the trust. I have found everyone really supportive through my apprenticeship. I would definitely recommend completing an apprenticeship because it's the most effective way of learning.'
