Health Visiting Service
Service overview
Our Health Visiting teams are led by specialist Health Visitors—qualified nurses and midwives with additional training in public health. We are supported by community staff nurses, community nursery nurses, and administrators.
We support families with children aged 0 to 5 years old. We work alongside GPs, paediatricians, midwives, schools, community groups, and charities to ensure families get the support they need.
What we offer (The Healthy Child Programme)
We deliver the national Healthy Child Programme. This provides every family with support through:
- Screening tests
- Developmental reviews
- Immunisations
- Parenting advice
The support is tailored to your specific needs. We can also help you with managing your baby's health, breastfeeding, and your own wellbeing.
Accessing our service
All families are welcome to access our service. You do not need a referral. We find out about pregnancies and new babies from our partner services and will get in touch with you. Our support is available from pregnancy until your child turns five.
There are many ways to get help:
- ChatHealth: You can text us using our confidential ChatHealth service if you are a parent or carer worried about your child.
- Well Baby Clinics: You can visit a clinic in your local area. We are mainly based in children’s centres, family hubs, or community spaces like village halls.
- Appointments: We can offer appointments in one of our appointment-only clinics if you need more focused support.
If you need help outside of clinic opening times, you can contact us via ChatHealth.

Preparing for appointments
We offer a range of health and wellbeing developmental reviews. We will let you know the date and time of your appointment and send you a text reminder.
- Bring your Red Book: Please bring your child’s Personal Child Health Record (PCHR), or red book, to all appointments and clinic sessions.
- Note your questions: You can write down any questions or concerns in the red book.
- Complete questionnaires: If your child has a developmental review coming up, please complete any questionnaires sent with your appointment letter just before the date, as children develop quickly.
