Speech and Language Therapy

In our Children and Young People's Integrated Therapy (CYPIT) services, we offer an integrated approach to assessment and care planning so that the right people are involved in assessing you or your child and supporting you to achieve your goals..

We are a team of paediatric Speech and Language Therapists working across Berkshire. We can work with your child if they have difficulties with speech, language or communication and with some children who are experiencing eating and drinking difficulties.

If you have concerns or want to know more about normal child development, you can find information and strategies to try at home or in school on our CYPIT toolkits.

Our aim is that speech and language therapy has a positive effect on your child’s education, behaviour and ability to socialise. We work together with families, education staff and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes by working towards agreed goals that are functional, meaningful & important for your child. We may do this by:

  • Providing training and advice for parents/carers and other individuals supporting your child (e.g. education staff)
  • Providing strategies, and/or programmes of activities to be carried out by a range of people to support your child in different environments
  • Providing advice and recommendations for specialist equipment such as communication aids where this is needed
  • Contributing to Educational Healthcare plans and transition planning
  • Providing direct therapy with your child individually or in a group when needed

We work closely in partnership with children/young people, parents, carers, education staff and a range of professionals to help your child achieve the goals that we have agreed with you.

Unfortunately we don't have drop-in clinics available in Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead. Please use our online referral form to refer pre-school aged children in this area.

Our speech and language therapy drop-in clinics are for newborns up till they finish at nursery.

We can help if your child has difficulties:

  • Understanding words, sentences and instructions
  • Using words and sentences, pronouncing words
  • Talking - stammering, a husky/hoarse voice
  • Social skills and play

What happens at a drop-in?

Your visit will include:

  • Talking about your concerns with a Speech and Language Therapist
  • A brief assessment of your child’s speech and language skills
  • A Speech and Language Therapist will do this by watching and joining in with your child in a play situation
  • An opportunity to give you advice on how to support your child to develop their speech, language and communication skills

What happens next?

  • You may be given advice or specific activities to try and asked to come back to us if you have further concerns
  • Your child may be offered another assessment
  • It may be jointly agreed that your child will need further support from the service and an appropriate appointment will be arranged

To visit our clinic, your child will need to have a parent with them or your written consent for us to speak to them.

If you're not attending with your child, please contact our triage team for a questionnaire and parental consent form.
