Changes to our services due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
If you are concerned you may have symptoms of coronavirus please follow the Government advice published on NHS Choices. Do not visit a GP practice, urgent care centre, or any of our services if you have symptoms.
You should only call NHS111 if you have a physical health concern. They will be able to direct you to the most appropriate service.
Only in a medical emergency should you contact 999 or attend the local A&E department.
We are aware that this will be a worrying time for you and for your family. We are doing all we can to keep our CYPF services running while also keeping you and our staff safe. However, please be aware that due to the impact of COVID-19 we will be prioritising urgent appointments and referrals and some services will be disrupted, postponed or delivered differently (via phone or video link where possible).
We provide nursing services for children and young people with acute and complex health nursing needs across Berkshire.

The Children's Community Nursing services in Berkshire West transferred to us on 1 October 2019. The new base is at the University of Reading, London Road, RG1 5EY. This is an exciting opportunity for the Children's Community Nursing team to work in very close collaboration with the specialist school nursing team, which will ensure that good quality nursing care is delivered in the most efficient way to children and young people across a variety of community settings.
Wherever possible, the work of our team will continue although, in some cases, not in the way you may be used to.
Until further notice, we’re reducing all non-urgent face to face appointments and will offer alternative arrangements.
Depending on your needs, this could include:
- an online video consultation, similar to a Skype or WhatsApp call
- consultation over the phone
- professional advice on how to manage your own care
In some urgent cases we may make home visits.
A member of the team will contact you to decide on the right arrangements for you. There is no need to contact us.

The Specialist School Nursing service provides care and support to children and young people up to the age of 19 who have complex health needs and are enrolled in the following special schools:
- Brookfields Special School in Tilehurst, Reading
- Avenue Special School in Reading
- Castle Special School in Newbury
- Addington Special School in Wokingham
The Specialist School Nursing Team consists both of Specialist School Nurses and Specialist Nursery Nurses and is based within the four schools.
The team offers an open access service to all children, parents and carers and teaching staff to advise on health, development and medical conditions. They also work in collaboration with the school, the Children and Young People’s Integrated Therapy Team and other professionals to promote a holistic view of your child’s health and wellbeing.
For children that need a specialised nursing healthcare plan, the Specialist School Nurse works with parents and carers to develop a plan covering your child's needs. When the care plan has been agreed with the parent or carer, the nurse will make sure that school staff are trained, so that your child can attend school safely.
The Specialist Nursery Nurses are an integral part of the team and provide individual care to children who meet the Children’s Continuing Care criteria, and need one to one support so that their complex health needs can be met safely during the school day.
