Community Mental Health Services

Type: community mental health service, community service

Description: The Community Mental Health Service consists of 2 sector teams covering 2 distinct areas of reading. Each sector is multi-disciplinary consisting of psychiatric nurses, social workers, a consultant psychiatrist and a specialty doctor.

There is also an Early Intervention service, providing a specialist service for young people presenting with a first episode of psychosis., and a criminal justice service. There are 3 elements to the criminal justice mental health service: the forensic team provides care coordination to mentally disordered offenders, a Court Divert Team assessments for the court, and ongoing support to people with Mental Health problems in the criminal justice service, and a Prison Inreach Team provides care coordination to mentally ill prisoners at Reading Young Offenders Institute.

Common conditions treated: services are for people with severe and / or enduring conditions: bipolar disorder (manic depression); depression; eating disorders; obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); mild or moderate personality disorders, post traumatic stress disorder; schizophrenia; serious self harm; substance misuse.

Our services can be accessed through: any referrals accepted including self-referrals.

In partnership with: Reading Borough Council; Crossroads; Alzheimers Society
Age group served: older adults
Service cover: Reading Borough Council area
Location: Reading

Description: An integrated team of health and social care professionals providing treatment and monitoring in the community.

Common conditions treated: services are for people with severe and / or enduring conditions: anxiety; bipolar disorder (manic depression); dementia; depression; obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); mild or moderate personality disorders; post traumatic stress disorder; schizophrenia; serious self harm; substance misuse.

You can access our services via: GPs and local doctor referral; specialist mental health service.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

CAMHS stands for 'Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services'. Berkshire CAMHS aims to promote good mental health, and to assess and treat mental health problems in children and young people up to the age of 18 years. We work in six local clinics as well as the Berkshire Adolescent Unit in Wokingham and other community settings.
